If you thought Travis and Abby were stubborn, you'll find Kiera to be stubborn, clueless, and ridiculous to the extreme. The couple in Thoughtless was a 1 step forward, 15 steps back, type of deal. I need to rant to you strangers out in the Goodreads universe. I just want to bitch about Kiera's insensitivity. This review sort of has mild spoilers, but I say to read it anyway because I'm not going to divulge anything major or reveal the outcome. Both books feature a female lead in college, and have a roommates falling-for-each-other scenario. Both books have a male lead who is a lady- killer, able to bag any woman he wants, and often does. Both books are high on the back-and-forth drama. Thoughtless has been compared to Beautiful Disaster, and I can see where the comparisons are coming from. Parts of this book were enjoyable for me, while many others were "I want to choke a bitch right now" moments. Is it possible to have a hesitant relationship with a love or hate book? Because I think that's where my mind is at.

That deadly Category 5 storm made landfall about 50 miles northwest in Mexico Beach, but packed enough punch to level many St. The island has been battered over the decades by tropical storms, most recently by Hurricane Michael in October 2018. “People can have the best of both worlds there, just miles and miles of unspoiled beaches,” he said. The other sections of the island contain a small village, restaurants, rental homes and motels, but not a whole lot else. The park covers about 2,000 acres on the east end of the island, which is connected by a bridge to the mainland across Apalachicola Bay, famed for its oysters. “There’s just so many things that capture my imagination there,” Leatherman said in an interview. But this year what set it apart from others is its natural beauty, lack of development, abundant activities including fishing, swimming, kayaking, cycling, camping and an unparalleled view of the night sky for stargazers, Leatherman said. Those locations were Duke Kahanamoku Beach on Oahu, Wailea Beach on Maui and Poipu Beach on Kauai.įlorida had the second-most beaches on the list with two. Hawaii placed three beaches on the list, more than any other state. This year’s top 10 list marks the 33rd year Leatherman has rated the best of America’s 650 public beaches around Memorial Day, the traditional start of summer. George Island just off the Florida Panhandle drew the top honor from Stephen Leatherman, professor in the Department of Earth & Environment at Florida International University. Starting from that place of wonder, the world begins to change: It is a practice that can transform a relationship, a community, a culture, even a nation. It enjoins us to see no stranger but instead look at others and say: You are part of me I do not yet know. How do we love in a time of rage? How do we fix a broken world while not breaking ourselves? Valarie Kaur-renowned Sikh activist, filmmaker, and civil rights lawyer-describes revolutionary love as the call of our time, a radical, joyful practice that extends in three directions: to others, to our opponents, and to ourselves. A well-paced picture book, surefooted in both text and illustrations. Duck and Gander, with their comic expressions, are an endearing pair, and Schindler (Great-aunt Ida and Her Great Dane Doc) does an especially good job of reconciling the prevailing humor with the menace presented by Fox. Dappled illustrations suggest filtered sunlight and bucolic countryside, while Fox arrives in a flourish of russet. Megan Lloyd Big Pumpkin by Erica Silverman, S.D. Silverman (Big Pumpkin) deploys lighthearted repetitions (``Duck did not move a muscle. In a hilarious spoof of the counting classic Over in the Meadow, Silverman deposits two escaped convicts in a haunted house, and then lets the inhabitants. One-upmanship goes toe-to-toe (or web-to-web?) with camaraderie when Duck and Gander compete for the title of ``one and only, true and forever champion of champions.'' Duck can swim faster and Gander can fly higher, but a freeze-in-place contest (``Don't move. Mostly choreographing fight scenes requires a lot of research. “We’re both familiar with firearms and some basic sword fighting. “Gordon studied judo while in Japan,” Ilona said. In an interview for the blog of author Nalini Singh, they said the fight scenes in the books are choreographed before they go on the page. The name Ilona Andrews is a pseudonym for the husband-and-wife writing team of Andrew and Ilona Gordon. The magic in her blood makes her a target, and she spent most of her life hiding in plain sight. She likes her sword a little too much, and has a hard time controlling her mouth. In this world lives Kate Daniels, who was introduced in 2007’s Magic Bites. Monsters prowl the ruined streets, werebears and werehyenas stalk their prey and the Masters of the Dead, necromancers driven by their thirst of knowledge and wealth, pilot blood-crazed vampires with their minds. The magic comes and goes like the tide-and with it, the normal laws of physics come and go as well. The Kate Daniels series from Ilona Andrews takes place in a magical version of Atlanta where the world has suffered a magic apocalypse. Atlanta has never been so deadly-good thing Kate Daniels is on the job. The Sandman was Vertigo's flagship title, and is available as a series of ten trade paperbacks, a recolored five-volume Absolute hardcover edition with slipcase, a three-volume omnibus edition, a black-and-white Annotated edition it is also available for digital download.Ĭritically acclaimed, The Sandman was among the first graphic novels to appear on The New York Times Best Seller list, along with Maus, Watchmen, and The Dark Knight Returns. The Sandman is a story about stories and how Morpheus, the Lord of Dreams, is captured and subsequently learns that sometimes change is inevitable. The series is famous for Gaiman's trademark use of anthropomorphic personification of various metaphysical entities, while also blending mythology and history in its horror setting within the DC Universe. The other Endless are Destiny, Death, Desire, Despair, Delirium (formerly Delight), and Destruction (also known as 'The Prodigal'). The main character of The Sandman is Dream, also known as Morpheus and other names, who is one of the seven Endless. 47, it was placed under DC's Vertigo imprint, and following Vertigo's retirement in 2020, reprints have been published under DC's Black Label imprint. Steamboy follows the adventures of James Ray Steam, the wizkid grandson of a genius scientist living an alternate 1860s Britain, who finds himself in the crosshairs of a nefarious robber baron who wants to conqueror the world using the “Steamball,” an invention capable of generating an infinite (and dangerous) amount of energy. Katsuhiro Otomo’s 2004 steampunk action anime doesn’t get nearly as much love as it deserves. Pete Volk SteamboyĬast: Anne Suzuki, Manami Konishi, Katsuo Nakamura We are all lucky to be able to watch it for free. It’s also a master class of framing bodies in motion and one of the best action movies of the century. While in color, Shadow makes great use of black-and-white imagery in every element, from stark costuming and set design to lighting that brings out the contrast of black and white. But it doesn’t skimp on the action - that umbrella you see above is made of blades, and there are many outstanding action sequences utilizing the unconventional weapon. Much like Full River Red, Shadow is rich on political intrigue. But Zhang is perhaps best known for his work in the wuxia genre, like Hero, House of Flying Daggers, and Shadow - all breathless displays of cinematic excellence. His latest, the political comedy Full River Red, is a fun and strange twist-y thriller that trades some of his usual love for soaring action for fast-paced dialogue and a highly complicated narrative. No one in the world makes more beautiful action movies than Zhang Yimou. I don’t read a lot of thriller/mystery but this one sounded fantastic. In the Dark, In the Woods by Eliza Wass: This book caught my eye right away. I have adored all of Brigid Kemmerer’s books, especially her contemporaries. Thicker Than Water by Brigid Kemmerer:This is one I don’t know how I haven’t read yet. Spark (Spark #1) by Rachael Craw:I met Rachael Craw a few years ago, so I got the first book in the series. Plus I don’t think it had a publisher here in Australia so it just didn’t happen. It was out in hardback when I first found it, and at the time I could not afford it at all! I was under 18, not working etc. In Honor by Jessi Kirby:I don’t own this one, but I know why. But every time I have tried, I couldn’t get over 50 pages. I’m not sure why, it has so much that I love in the book. I have tried to read this one twice now and I just couldn’t get into it. The Diviners (The Diviners #1) by Libba Bray:Okay let me start with, I have tried. And I am just reading it that much these days. A lot of the books that have been there the longest are young adult books. So today I am taking us back in time and sharing 10 books that have been on my Goodreads tbr the longest. Otherwise, I will forget so much about it. I do that so I actually remember the book. If you didn’t know already I don’t only use my Goodreads tbr for books that I own but in general to keep track of books that I am excited about and want to read. I thought I would have a little fun today and share the books that have been on my Goodreads tbr the longest.
